Developing flexible electronics by means of laser ablation

Objective

Manufacturing high-resolution electronic devices on flexible materials for applications used in healthcare and the automotive sector.

Results

Refining laser ablation processes to deposit metallic layers on polymeric substrates.

Flexible electronics, laser, electronic devices

There is a growing demand for electronic devices on flexible polymeric substrates for a number of industrial applications in healthcare and the automotive sector.

Thanks to smaller end sizes, these solutions offer a higher degree of integration of electronics in different products. Likewise, the use of traditional plastic substrates clearly reduces costs which means that in certain applications such as biomedical tests disposable devices can be developed.

Tekniker has developed laser ablation processes that offer high resolution (line width under 30 microns), high productivity  levels and remove all thermal defects in substrates.
