The technology centre will play an outstanding role with regard to the programme of technical lectures to be given during HSM 2018 congress to be held today and tomorrow at the Kursaal conference centre in San Sebastian.

New stock removal methods that use advanced tools, the application of IoT technologies to machining processes and the implementation of cyber-physical systems on machine tools are some of the subjects that experts in high speed machining from the IK4-TEKNIKER technology centre will address during the international High Speed Machining congress 2018 (HSM).

The forum, organised by the technology centre, will take place today and tomorrow at the Kursaal conference centre in San Sebastian.

On day one, a presentation entitled “A methodology for the design of chip breakers for PCD tools based on FEM” will be given to describe new systems used to design stock removal technologies based on the finite element method (FEM) with polycrystalline diamond tools (PCD).

On the second, and final day, Wednesday April 18, IK4-TEKNIKER experts will talk about the latest trends on how to apply IoT technologies and cyber-physical systems to machine tools during a presentation entitled “Machine Tool: Form the Digital-Twin to the Cyber-Physical System”.

Another presentation called “High Speed Spindles: current status and trends” will follow to describe the vision and services offered by the manufacturer of components Goialde High Speed to the suppliers of high-speed machining heads as well as current actions carried out in cooperation with IK4-TEKNIKER to enhance competitiveness.

The last IK4-TEKNIKER presentation will address research actions linked to the machining of advanced materials, especially nickel-based alloys, titanium alloys and hardened steel, for use in sectors such as industry, transport, power generation or biomedicine in a lecture entitled “Development of a cryogenic machining device for milling operations.
