The event was attended by the Regional First Minister, Patxi López, the Chief Executive of Guipuzkoa, Markel Olano, and the Mayor of Eibar, Miguel de los Toyos

This morning the future Eibar Technology Park took a decisive step forward towards its inauguration in 2011 with the placing of its first stone. The event was attended by the First Minister, Patxi López, the Chief Executive of Guipuzkoa, Markel Olano, the Mayor of Eibar, Miguel de los Toyos, and the Managing Director of Tekniker-IK4, Alejandro Bengoa, as well as numerous representatives of the political and business communities.
The new Eibar Technology Park is promoted by Tekniker-IK4 and, as well as the new facilities of this technological centre, will house important high added-value technological and advanced services companies. Most of the companies in the new centre specialise in R+D+i in such fields as transport, mechatronics, health and energy.
This cutting-edge business park is already a member of the Spanish Association of Technology and Science Parks and intends to become technological benchmark in the Basque Country and a centre for advanced research, at a time when economic uncertainty demand the transformation of our model of production.
All in all, the Eibar technology Centre covers over 130,000 square metres and aims to provide up to 1,500 jobs, most of them highly qualified.

Whole-hearted institutional support
The event held this morning also shows the whole-hearted institutional support that the project has enjoyed from the very beginning. The various government bodies that have supported the Eibar Technology Centre hope to help vertebrate Basque technology and create a new centre of excellence.
As well as the Tekniker-IK4 headquarters, the new centre has attracted the interest of companies that are the driving forces in their specific sectors, as well as a technological campus, a result of the agreement signed with the University of the Basque Country. Equally, the Eibar Gun-making School has signed a framework agreement with the Eibar Technology Centre, similar in scope to that of the University, and plans to enhance its installations with a new facility in the park.

Tekniker-IK4 invests 20M€ in its new headquarters
Special mention should be made of the new 13,800 square metre headquarters that the promoter of the project, the technological centre Tekniker-IK4, is building in the park. With an investment of over 20 million Euros, the centre in Eibar currently employs 260 staff, with sustained forecast growth rates of 10%.

With almost 30 years experience of research into applied technology and its transfer to the Basque industry, the centre has developed a high degree of specialisation in four main areas (Precision Engineering and Mechatronics, Surface Engineering, Production Engineering and Automation and Manufacturing Technologies), allowing it to place its cutting-edge technological know-how at the service of both Basque industry and society as a whole.
