The aim of Almagrid, promoted by CDTI, is to reinforce the capabilities of technology centres in terms of storage systems and further their collaborative abilities with other stakeholders, especially companies, with regard to this particular technology. Tekniker is participating in this network of excellence in the area of advanced storage systems.

The Almagrid Network of excellence, promoted by the Centre for Technological and Industrial Development (CDTI), comprises a network focused on developing advanced storage systems to meet the massive integration requirements of renewable generation technologies in the electrical grid and become a benchmark in the sector.

Another goal consists in strengthening the capabilities of technology centres with regard to storage systems via collaborative actions to be carried with other stakeholders, mainly companies, already dealing with this technology.

More specifically, Tekniker has focused on Almagrid to carry out research related to redox flow batteries as an energy storage system. The technology centre is currently developing new lines of research involving batteries to improve their cost, performance, service life and safety by also taking into consideration environmental and recyclability issues. With this objective in mind, explorative work is focused on new inorganic aqueous electrolytes, materials for components and cell designs.

The Almagrid initiative, recognised by CDTI as the Cervera Network of Excellence, comprises four technological research centres with a high degree of specialisation and excellence in the energy sector. These centres are Cidetec Energy Storage, ITE, Circe and Tekniker.

It is in this context, that the Cervera Network of Excellence offers a unique opportunity to establish a framework to foster interactions between all four organisations and the activities they have performed separately until now to generate synergies and significantly improve the industrial impact resulting from actions of this kind under the slogan “Together we can not only do more and better but also go further”.
