Self-supporting machines on large parts

IK4-TEKNIKER has collaborated with “Egun on Euskadi” by appearing on the show to explain the concept of a self-supporting machine tool developed at the technology centre.

On April 4, IK4-TEKNIKER collaborated with ETB (the Basque public TV station), by appearing on “Egun on Euskadi”, a morning news programme on ETB1 conducted by Estepan Aldamiz Etxebarria to explain recent work carried out at the technology centre in the field of self-supporting machine tools.

During the interview, Itziar Cenoz, the IK4-TEKNIKER Marketing and Communications manager, explained the new concept of self-supported machine tools and displayed a prototype developed at the technology centre.

The prototype is a miniaturised and portable machine tool featuring smart and autonomous capabilities designed to perform highly accurate and flexible repairs and maintenance tasks in restricted or hazardous environments such as nuclear power plants, oil rigs or places that are inaccessible for human beings.

These small and smart machines reach a component by their own means and can work and move freely around it. They are conventionally called portable machines and provide the basis for the new approach called “small machine on large parts”.
