TEKNIKER-IK4 will make a presentation on its projects and solutions for high-accuracy gauging, measuring and testing applications at the fourth edition of the National Metrology Congress that will take place in Santander on the forthcoming 1 to 3 June 2009. Recognised as one of the benchmark centres in this field nationwide, the Eibar-based technology centre has recently developed the world's most accurate barometer, in partnership with CEM, the Spanish Centre of Metrology.
TEKNIKER-IK4 sponsors the event organised by the Spanish Centre of Metrology (CEM), Spain's Ministry of Industry, Trade and Tourism, and the Local Government of Cantabria, jointly with other companies including Iberdrola, Unión Fenosa, AENOR, E-ON España, Indra, ENAC (Spain's National Accreditation Body), Enagas, Contazara and Centro de Laboratorios de Madrid (CLM). The forum will meet at the Magdalena Palace in the chief city of Cantabria for three days and several renowned national experts in this subject area will participate.
The National Congress on Metrology - the science that studies measurable quantities, systems of units, measuring methods and techniques, and assesses their quality, contributing to science and technology progress - primarily aims at spreading the far-reaching social and economic impact of this discipline.
TEKNIKER-IK4 and the Spanish Centre of Metrology CEM
TEKNIKER-IK4's experience in developing metrology-related equipment and systems ranges over the whole field, from industrial applications for production plants to high-accuracy equipment for primary laboratories. Likewise, it encompasses large-scale as well as microscale and nanoscale measurements.
As a precision engineering expert and a leading supplier of scientific equipment, TEKNIKER-IK4 has been cooperating with the Spanish Centre of Metrology (CEM) - belonging to Spain's Ministry of Industry, Trade and Tourism - for more than twenty years. Recent good proof of the mutual trust the two organisations put in each other is the commissioning of the Eibar-based technology centre to design and develop the world's most accurate barometer for CEM.
This development enabled Spain to join the world's elite - USA, Japan and South Korea, the hitherto most advanced countries in the field of pressure measurement, which has multiple applications, from meteorology to aeronautics.
Prior to this milestone, TEKNIKER-IK4 had already supplied CEM with an interferometric comparator for large gauge blocks, two angular comparator systems and other miscellaneous devices. There is, however, no doubt that the design and construction of the new pressure primary standard has been the greatest challenge to the technological capacity of the Eibar-based technology centre.
With over 25 years of experience doing research in applied technology and transferring the same to the industry, TEKNIKER-IK4 has reached a high level of specialization in four major areas: Precision Engineering and Mechatronics, Surface Engineering, Production Engineering, and Manufacturing Automation and Technologies. TEKNIKER-IK4 is thus able to make its leading-edge technology available to all sorts of tasks. In 2008, developments by the Eibar-based technology centre were worth about 19 million euro.
