Tekniker-IK4 will be displaying its multidisciplinary approach to heathcare sciences at the Connected Health 2012 international workshop in Bilbao tomorrow Top companies in the international sphere like Google, Oracle or Orange will be participating alongside the R+D Centre
The Basque company will be displaying its latest projects, like nanotechnological chips for detecting diseases, assistive robots or computer platforms for patient monitoring

Technologies have the inexhaustible potential to improve people's quality of life and health, a capacity which modern societies are increasingly demanding as a result of the economic and financial pressures being put on healthcare systems.

That is why the proposals of the large technology companies to advance in healthcare are addressing this challenge from a whole range of perspectives, from the organisation of the system itself to mechanisms for monitoring patients at a distance.

The Basque R+D Center Tekniker-IK4 will be presenting its multidisciplinary conception and latest technological developments in this field tomorrow in Bilbao, where it will be participating in the Connected Health 2012 international workshop, which will be bringing together some of the companies with the most advanced technologies applied to healthcare sciences.

The coordinator of Tekniker-IK4's Social and Healthcare Technology Area Patricia Casla will be sharing the lectern with spokespeople from top international companies like Google, Oracle or Orange, when she speaks about Innovation and Remote Monitoring.
This Basque Centre has a multidisciplinary approach to the area of healthcare with solutions that combine the latest advances in a whole range of areas, like smart systems, robotics, micro- and nanotechnologies or mechatronics. Among its various developments there are devices for the advanced analysis of blood samples, nano-technological chips for detecting diseases of the digestive system, assistive robots or computer platforms for patient monitoring.

Four research laboratories
Tekniker-IK4 organises its developments in the healthcare field at four research laboratories: robotic assistance, ambient vision and technology; electronics and wireless communication; microtechnologies and nanotechnologies; and advanced production processes.
Many of its projects are characterised by the adaptation of technologies of various fields within a single solution. The kroniTek project, for example, consists of developing a computing system for the ubiquitous management of the needs of patients with chronic conditions. The telemonitoring of biometric parameters, the remote monitoring of the patient's activity, the management of alerts and the development of mobile applications are made possible by this system.
Tekniker-IK4 has also developed a portable device for measuring blood coagulation levels with a view to improving the life quality of patients who are on oral anti-coagulants. This project, known as microINR, aims to improve patients' self-monitoring.

The seminar
In addition to remote monitoring, Connected Health 2012 seminar, which will be going on all day, will be dealing with subjects like "mHealth Technologies or healthcare on the go", "Interoperability Challenges" and "The Patient's Experience".
Attendance at the event is free of charge, so anyone linked to the healthcare sector or simply interested may attend the workshop after registering via the web page.
The seminar, organised by the company Ándago and promoted by Continua Health Alliance, will constitute the threshold of the Continua Plugfest #015, a meeting for the professional exchange between companies in the telehealthcare industry which will also be taking place in Bilbao.

Tekniker-IK4
With experience spanning nearly 30 years in research into applied technology and its transfer to companies, in addition to making advances in the development of Social and Healthcare Technology, the Tekniker-IK4 R+D centre has achieved a high degree of specialisation in four major areas (Precision Engineering and Mechatronics, Surface Engineering, Production and Automation Engineering, and Manufacturing Technologies), which enables it to put its state-of-the-art technology at the service of the business and social base.
