Our work with Micro and Nanotechnologies deals with the development of manufacturing processes that allow structures to be generated in different materials. From 10 nm to 100 µm, combining processes as different as Nanoimprint Lithography, Soft Lithography, UV Lithography, fine layer deposition, plasma etching and micromilling, microelectroerosion by penetration or wire and laser ablation with femtosecond pulses.

Systems being developed using these technologies are being applied in diverse fields:

  • Biotechnology: for the identification of gene sequences, the manufacture of chips to detect proteins in serum, the separation of cells in blood and the generation of epithelial tissue.
  • Photonic elements: for the manufacture of organic semiconductor lasers and high-resolution linear encoders.
  • Agrofood sector: for the manufacture of flexible cards with microsensors and RF communication for foodstuffs transport logistics. The manufacture of these systems is complemented with a high degree of specialisation in dimensional characterisation technologies.

We are also working to acquire the technologies needed to develop functional surfaces with specific properties: optical, magnetic, chemically inert, anti-corrosion, anti-wear and catalytic, using the tools needed to design the surfaces by theory, modelling and simulation.
