The electromagnetism and power accelerators speciality at TEKNIKER covers systems based on magnetic suspension technology, developed using active magnetic actuators, as well as particle acceleration systems, including such technologies as high-vacuum, radio-frequency, magnets, superconductivity, cryogenics, electrical and electronic engineering, mechatronics, materials sciences and control, some with strong links to electromagnetism.
As a technological centre specialising in Mechatronics, manufacturing technologies and microtechnologies, TEKNIKER is analysing new areas of research that will allow us to establish the bases for developing generic products for use in future industrial applications. With magnetic suspension, special mention should be made of those relating to research into new magnetic actuator configurations, high performance control electronics, adapted power electronics and sensors.
Magnetic actuators have a wide range of applications. Current applications are generally limited to the following products:
Power accelerators are the systems installed in major scientific facilities studying the behaviour of materials, either using photons (synchrotron radiation) or neutrons (spallation sources). The electromagnetism and power accelerator speciality at TEKNIKER includes development of the instrumentation needed by said major facilities to analyse and diagnose the particle beam.
