Product development

The objective of the e-Health and Social Technology sector is to promote the development of high added value products that enhance the quality of life of persons and who face health-related problems, ageing or disability, as well as support for the healthcare sector.

IK4-TEKNIKER provides a multidisciplinary approach that enables its clients and collaborators in the development of both partial solutions and complete products.

Health

  • Telemedicine systems (self-management support, tele-monitoring, tele-rehabilitation) adapted to the particular needs of patients, mainly chronic ones and the elderly, that enable them to become more involved in the self-management of their disease. Such solutions cover aspects such as the monitoring of medical parameters and lifestyles, education, or the management of risk situations, and are incorporated into standards-based systems of health providers. Some of these solutions have already been or are in the process of being validated with patients in real environments.
  • Portable measurement and diagnostic sensors and devices for both self-diagnosis and professional use, including embedded systems, measurement and communications algorithms that comply with the standards and requirements of certification in the sector.
  • Intelligent decision-support systems, integrating technologies such as the processing of natural language, semantic technologies and automatic learning, in order to help both patients and professionals in the diagnosis and treatment phases of the decision-taking process.

Independent living

  • Intelligent environments and tele-assistance integrating systems that enable collecting information from users and adapting this to their needs. This has applications to both domestic environments - helping the elderly or those with disability to carry out their daily tasks, or in work environments - enabling the workplace integration of persons at risk of exclusion.
  • Mobility. The design of technical solutions to compensate for deficiencies or disabilities that limit the mobility of persons such as the NOA smart wheelchair.
  • Robot assistants that incorporate capacities for autonomous navigation in spaces for persons, natural interaction and tele-presence aimed at assisting the elderly or those with functional limitations in their own homes or in residences.

Health management support

  • Service robots that incorporate capacities for autonomous navigation and that can collaborate with persons or other robots. The possible fields of application are very diverse: from acting as guides in hospitals and other public environments to undertaking logistic activities in hospitals in possible combination with other robots which are, for example, responsible for the preparation of doses of medicine.
