The technology centre will present developments connected a technology based on energy harvesting used to power sensing systems.

From April 15 - 19 2018, the city of Orlando (Florida, USA), will host the SPIE Commercial + Scientific Sensing and Imaging conference on the latest innovations connected to sensors, images, imaging and photonics applied to manufacturing, transport, health, agriculture, information systems and the environment, among others.

IK4-TEKNIKER will participate in this event under the category of “Energy Harvesting and Storage: Materials, Devices, and Applications VIII” and give a lecture entitled “Double smart power management with wind mini-reactor and photovoltaic cell energy harvester for Industry 4.0 IIoT devices” addressing the Energy Harvesting technology within the context of the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT).

Specifically, the technology combines two energy collectors that are managed by a single architecture. A mini-reactor and a photovoltaic cell collect power that is processed by a double power management device equipped with AC/DC and DC/DC converters. These converters, moreover, are controlled by only one element to achieve optimum energy levels for storage and use at a later stage. Likewise, the incorporation of artificial intelligence techniques in the energy manager provide it with smart and predictive energy management capabilities.

This system powers IIoT systems to eliminate battery dependence and maintain/extend their life indefinitely via dual energy collection from the environment.

The conference

The SPIE Commercial + Scientific Sensing and Imaging conference is one the 25 biggest technical forums that SPIE (the International Society of Optics and Photonics) organises and sponsors every year in United States, Europe and South Pacific.

Events of this kind boost emerging technologies and allow further progress to be made in the field of light-based technologies through the exchange of information, continuous training and publications resulting from patents.
