IK4-TEKNIKER participates in the second edition of the 3DCM conference

Date 06-10-2017 IK4-TEKNIKER

The technology centre presents a photogrammetric model to design the most optimum solution to measure and orientate elements simulating the shapes of solar receptors.

From October 9 - 11 2017, the city of Aachen (Germany) will host the 3DCM Metrology Conference for the second year running and IK4-TEKNIKER will not be missing the event.

On this occasion, the technology centre will deliver a presentation entitled “Feature-based modelling for pose estimation of geometric elements” dealing with the development and validation of an innovative photogrammetric system used to measure the position and orientation of cylindrical elements simulating solar receptors used at solar thermal power plants.

The model provides a real scene simulation to design an optimum solution to measure and monitor any elements of interest. Compared to conventional systems, the main difference is that it is no longer necessary to place targets on the elements to be measured. Therefore, no scene preparation is required and it is unnecessary to ensure a common vision between cameras, thus avoiding occlusion problems that usually occur when multi-vision systems are involved.

This photogrammetric model will be included in the European MOSAIC project addressing the design, production and validation of an innovative solar concentration concept characterised by low implementation costs and high energy efficiency levels.

The 3DCM conference

3DMC is a conference focused on applying and developing 3D technologies for industrial and research purposes.

For three consecutive days, discussions will address 3D metrology for advanced manufacturing, automation and in-process metrology, measuring uncertainty and traceability or augmented reality, among other topics.

The conference is mainly aimed at researchers and end users of 3D metrology systems in industrial sectors such as aerospace, automotive, power generation, etc., to present and discuss recent contributions, scientific advances and issues related the field of 3D metrology and how all of it can be applied to the industry.
